Canberra FC rewrote their club record books on the weekend with a massive 19-0 win over Goulburn Strikers to kick-start the defence of their Rock Premier League crown. The Deakin Stadium outfit were in ruthless form in front of their home crowd and picked the Strikers apart almost at will with twin spearheads Victor Yanes and Michael Spaleta helping themselves to half a dozen goals a piece whilst flying winger Josip Jadric bagged a deserved hat-trick. And while it was all one-way traffic spare a thought for Strikers goalkeeper Alex Whittle who made some superb saves to stop the home team racking up an even bigger tally. Canberra FC was 8-0 to the good by the half-time break with Yanes already on three and midfield playmaker Adam Spaleta claiming a brace. Michael Spaleta, John Glass and Jadric had all opened their accounts as well as Canberra FC hit top gear. After the interval it was pretty much more of the same as Jadric added his second within minutes of the re-start. It appeared as if Canberra FC could score every time they attacked and, but for the heroics of Whittle, they may well have done so. In the end though Canberra FC hit nineteen with perhaps the pick being a splendid chipped finish from substitute Anthony Bekavac in the 62nd minute.
