Canning City - Bayswater City 3:3 (2:3)

Goals: 0:1 Damir Kudozovic (12.); 0:2 Blaz Radovanovic (17.); 1:2 Dave Mickler; 1:3 Adrian Sutton; 2:3 Kyle Mitsopoulos; 3:3 Kyle Mitsopoulos (67.)

Canning City and Bayswater City played out a tight 3-3 draw at Willetton Sports Club in a match brought forward from Round Seventeen. Lacklustre defending complemented by a questionable refereeing allowed Bayswater to race to a two-goal lead inside twenty minutes. The opening goal arrived on 12 minutes when goalkeeper Devon Spence handled a back pass, Bobby Klenkloski’s free-kick cannoned back off the defensive wall to Damir Kudozovic who headed the rebound into the roof the net. Five minutes later Canning failed to deal with a long throw-in from the right which somehow found it’s way to Blaz Radanovich who volleyed in from 5-metres. Canning clawed their way back into the game when an unchallenged Dave Mickler got onto the end of a cross to head in at the far post. Adrian Sutton restored the visitors two-goal buffer by tapping in at close-range after Spence spilled a powerful shot by Jamie Kumkar. Canning responded in a similar fashion as Mickler’s shot was parried by Gianni Papalia into the path of Kyle Mitsopoulos who rounded the ‘keeper before netting. The solitary goal of the second period came on 67 minutes when Mickler’s pass across the top of the 18-yard box was controlled by Mitsopoulos who drilled the ball past a diving ‘keeper from 15-metres.

Ashfield - Forrestfield United 3:0 (1:0)

Goals: 1:0 Martin Kelly (2.); 2:0 Damien Todorovic (48.); 3:0 John Watson (89.)

Ashfield kept their slim title hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over Forrestfield United at Ashfield Soccer and Sports Club in the Football West State First Division. The home side almost went in front within ten seconds through midfielder Andy O’Neill. O’Neill was found open on the left and cut inside but his shot from twelve yards on a bad angle was tipped over the bar. From the ensuing corner Ashfield took the lead. An inviting ball in from O’Neill was allowed to bounce by the Forrestfield defenders, allowing striker Kelly to head home from six yards.Ashfield continued their superiority throughout the rest of the half but were unable to create anymore clear-cut chances. It was the visitors who had the best chance of the first period following the goal through young winger Trent Wood. A Forrestfield attacker tried his luck from long range but Ashfield goalkeeper Kenny Ftynohiannis managed to get a hand to the ball, which fell down to Wood who headed horribly over from two yards. Three minutes after the break Ashfield doubled their lead. Damien Todorovic used great pace to get inside and beat his defender then moved around the ‘keeper and scored after the shot took a friendly deflection off a defender. Todorovic had another good chance six minutes later when he was played in-behind, but with two defenders right behind him his shot went well over.Despite Ashfield having more possession, Forrestfield worked hard and once again managed to stop the home side creating many chances in the second half. United had a good chance of their own eight minutes from full-time when the ball fell to substitute Noblett but he couldn’t keep his shot down from ten yards.

With the win already secured Ashfield scored a third in the 89th minute. John Watson, who came on just five minutes earlier, shot fiercely along the ground from outside the box, beating the Forrestfield ‘keeper at the near post. The 3-0 victory for Ashfield keeps pressure on league leaders Mandurah City coming into the final weeks of the season, with the eastern suburbs side still within striking distance.

Dianella White Eagles - Rockingham City 5:3 (3:0)

Goals: 1:0 Jon Greenwood; 2:0 Jon Greenwood; 3:0 Paul Hickey; 4:0 Jon Greenwood; 5:0 Jon Greenwood; 5:1 R Hussy; 5:2 Carl Marwood; 5:3 Michael Vaz

Jon Greenwood smacked in four goals as Dianella White Eagles claimed the points against Rockingham City by a 5-3 scoreline. The home side came out firing on all cylinders and within 10 minutes had the lead through a Craig Wells corner which found Greenwood who had time to control and pick his place in the net from 5-metres. It didn’t take long for Greenwood to register his second of the afternoon with a diving header that took a deflection off a defender on its way into the net. With half-time just minutes away Wells slammed a free-kick into the defense and the rebound came to Paul Hickey who unleashed a fierce strike that gave the goalkeeper no chance. The margin became four goals in the 49th minute when Greenwood took advantage of poor marking to complete his hat-trick with a neat header from Wells’ corner. Greenwood then capped off a fine personal display by cutting in from the right and slicing his way past a couple of defenders to knock in his fourth goal. With the result beyond doubt Dianella now eased off the pace to such as degree that Rockingham piled on three consolation goals through R.Hussey, K.Marwood and Michael Vaz.

Mandurah City - Balcatta 3:2 (2:2)

Goals: 0:1 Christian Debarro (2.); 1:1 Jordan Rhodes (Penalty, 12.); 2:1 Graham Matthews (22.); 2:2 Adrian Caliero; 3:2 Jake Loreto (75.)

After a comprehensive victory over Bayswater last week Mandurah City were back at home facing Balcatta, a team who had taken two crucial points off Mandurah's closest Rivals Ashfield last week. Mandurah were without 5 first team regulars, however, Balcatta were also short of experience on the day and they made that problem look light as they took a shock lead within a minute of the kickoff. Balcatta took good advantage of the strong breeze in the first half with their keeper launching long clearances well into the Mandurah half and this nearly paid additional dividends as the away side created a couple of half chances, the second of which was closed out by Jeff Bright as he worked hard to get back and put in a saving tackle just as Balcatta were about to pull the trigger. Jake Loreto was back in the starting line up on the day and he was the creative force behind Mandurah's first goal as his through pass found Graham Matthews who was brought down as he rounded the Balcatta fullback. Jordy Rhodes struck the penalty well but the Balcatta keeper selected the correct direction and got a hand to ball which deflected off the upright and into the net. Mandurah were fired up at this point and could have had a second as Michael Bobridge was denied on the Balcatta goal line by a spectacular clearance. Jake Loreto made the second soon after as his pinpoint cross found Graham Matthews in the exact same position he had found last week against Bayswater. Matthews again made no mistake and clinically finished at the near post for a 2-1 scoreline. Balcatta were nowhere near finished themselves, however, as they promptly went down the other end and after some excellent football were first to react to a shot that hit the Mandurah crossbar making the half time score 2-2.

After a blast at half time, (in Mandurah coach Stuart Currie ratings this one was a 'wallpaper peeler' as opposed to the famous 'paint stripper' which the Mandurah lads have yet to hear), Mandurah came out with the breeze at their backs determined to take the points. The Balcatta keeper was having a fine game with any number of fine saves and Balcatta were defending deep playing a counter attacking game at this point. Balcatta could have snatched the lead as their striker managed to get through the Mandurah backline with the help of a deflection however Bright was back once again to snuff out the danger. Jordy Rhodes had a freekick expertly saved by the Balcatta keeper before he made another save from a scorching drive by Jeff Bright. Just as things were beginning to look bad for Mandurah however a low swung corner fell to Jake Loreto at the far post and he capped off his man of the match performance by slamming home the winner. There was still time for a couple more chances as Balcatta went close with a freekick from wide before Mandurahs Michael Bobridge missed a header from a cross by Jordy Rhodes.

Morley-Windmills - Queens Park 4:0 (4:0)

Goals: 1:0 Seita Hamamoto (2.); 2:0 Adrian McCann (27.); 3:0 Joe Woodin; 4:0 Scott McIlroy

Morley Windmills swept aside Queens Park 4-0 when they met at Wotton Reserve. The home fans became celebrations after 2 minutes when Seita Hamamoto turned his man on the edge of the 18-yard box and fired in a low shot which gave the goalkeeper no chance. A slick passing move down the left enabled Morley to doubled the margin in the 27th minute as Scott McIlroy threaded the ball to Remo McCann who laid it off for Adrian McCann to slot into the net. It was soon three-nil as Remo McCann sent McIlroy down the left from where he whipped a cross to the far post that Joe Woodin brilliantly controlled before pushing the ball between the posts. Good work by Paul Dundo saw him play down the right to Woodin whose cross was touched by the ‘keeper into the path of McIlroy who made no mistake from 9-metres. Morley were reduced to ten, then nine men as Remo McCann was issued two yellow cards in quick succession and Andy Bowyer was dismissed for foul play. Even so, the home team remained in control and debutant Mitchell Castrilli was denied their fifth by the ‘keeper who came out trumps in a one-on-one situation.

South West Phoenix - Gosnells City 0:3 (0:2)

Goals: 0:1 Darren Francis; 0:2 Brian Cairney; 0:3 Aaron Nadin

Phoenix crashed 3-0 to Gosnells on Saturday, snapping their 4 game winning streak and allowing Gosnells to pull well clear of the relegation zone. It was the first time Gosnells have ever picked up maximum points from Bunbury, and they were worthy winners on a day when virtually every Phoenix player was below par. Phoenix had a late change with Trim withdrawing, forcing Murphy into centre midfield and Krawec coming in to make his debut at left midfield. Gosnells started with the better intensity though, and as is usually the case, were most dangerous from set pieces. Indeed, it was from a corner that they took the lead with a near post header. Then a long throw in resulted in a snap shot from a tight angle which Montgomery could only parry, and it looped over his head and went in off the post to give Gosnells a 2-0 lead midway through the half. Phoenix started to exert themselves after this though, and the game started to be played in Gosnells' defensive half. Mayers went close with a header and a left foot shot, while Rooke, who had been moved to centre midfield, had a shot go close from the edge of the box. The match started to turn spiteful when a few of Gosnells players were constantly arguing with the referee, and also commenting on "Hometown linesman"- a comment which was also used alot through the Youth match when decisions went against Gosnells. Phoenix needed to statr the second half quickly, but some key turn overs cost them dearly and when Gosnells went 3-0 from a 1-on-1 with Montgomery, the game was almost done and dusted. Gosnells were well organised defensively and Phoenix were not sharp enough to open them up. Gosnells came closest to scoring again but it finished at a disappointing 3-0 loss for Phoenix, who now play Canning for third spot on the ladder. They may have to do it without Quinn, who is nursing a groin injury and looks doubtful for the match.
