Balcatta - Ashfield 2:2 (0:1)

Goals: 0:1 Damien Todorovic (18.); 1:1 Ben Rogers (53.); 1:2 (Own goal); 2:2 Shane Mitchell

A spectacular overhead strike by Shane Mitchell earned Balcatta a 2-2 draw with Ashfield at Graham Burkett Reserve. An entertaining game played in good spirits opened with Ashfield asserting their authority before breaking through on 18 minutes when the ball was turned over in midfield and a quick exchange of passes ended with Danien Todorovic thundering a spectacular shot from 30-metres into the net. The visitors continued their onslaught but Igor Novakovic and Andy O’Neill were unable to capitalise on their chances. 17-year old Adam Stillitano made his mark in the centre of midfield as Balcatta began the second half full of life. A booming kick by goalkeeper Tony Alexovski caught Ashfield square in the 53rd minutes and allowed Ben Rogers to race through and slot in the equaliser. Play then streamed from end to end with some excellent football keeping the small but vocal crowd enthralled. Ashfield reclaimed the lead when Alexovski was caught out of position after Andy O’Neill’s shot deflected off Daniel Colletta. The final twenty minutes was dominated by Balcatta who deservedly levelled proceedings when Mitchell, with back to goal, crashed the ball into the top corner from 14-metres. Both sides had chances to snatch a late winner but at the end of 90 minutes they had to be content to a point each.

Bayswater City - Mandurah City 1:4 (0:3)

Goals: 0:1 Graham Matthews (11.); 0:2 Graham Matthews; 0:3 Shane Crampton; 1:3 Jamie Kumkar; 1:4 Michael Bobridge

Mandurah travelled to Bayswater today for a game that could make or break their entire title campaign. Having lost to second placed Ashfield last week Mandurah had seen their lead at the top of the ladder whittled down to 5 points whilst Bayswater were coming off a string of impressive results and remained the only team in the division yet to drop a point to Mandurah.

Bayswater started sharply forcing a string of corners in the first five minutes one of which resulted in a rather hopeful call for a penalty kick. Mandurah settled quickly afterwards, however, winning many of the one on one encounters and placing pressure on Bayswater when in possession. Shane Crampton had the best early chance for the dolphins as his goal bound shot cannoned off the Bayswater upright. Bayswater failed to clear the opportunity and Andy Brown collected the ball just outside the penalty area and swung in a long cross which Bright played to Crampton who squared the ball across the goal for Graham Matthews to tap home the opener. Mandurah scored a second within minutes as Crampton again squared the ball across the goalmouth for Matthews to repeat his earlier effort. Mandurah were well on top at this point with Bright and Paschkewitz also going close before Bright won a penalty. Crampton's kick was well saved by the Bayswater keeper, however, the deflected shot rebounded back to Crampton who was first to react by slotting the ball home for Mandurah's third. It should have been four on the stroke of halftime as Scott Halpin's long freekick found Paschkewitz in acres of space. Paschkewitz beat the keeper to the ball but his resultant header was just wide of the Bayswater goal.

The second half was a duller affair with Mandurah creating and missing many chances. Bayswater did get back into the game midway though the half with a well finished header, however, Mandurah wrapped up the points with 5 minutes to go as Michael Bobridge capitalised on some great work by Andy Brown for a final score of 4-1.

Forrestfield United - Dianella White Eagles 2:4 (0:1)

Goals: 0:1 Ray Rose; 1:1 Phil Bell (Penalty, 66.); 1:2 Jon Greenwood; 1:3 Jon Greenwood; 1:4 Ray Rose (81.); 2:4 Phil Bell (Penalty)

Jon Greenwood scored twice against his former club as Dianella White Eagles downed Forrestfield United 4-2 at Hartfield Park. The home were quick out of the blocks and held a lot of the early possession only to be turned away time and time again by a stubborn Dianella backline. However, the only goal of the half came at the opposite end when Michael Maine sent the ball out wide to Dragan Njegic who beat his marker and drilled in a low cross which Ray Rose clinically finished at the far post. Forrestfield came out after the break determined to get back on level terms on that’s exactly what they did after 66 minutes when Phil Bell converted from the penalty spot. Greenwood made his presence known shortly after by looping a header over goalkeeper Brad Effie after pouncing on a dreadful defensive error. Dianella where now starting to flex there attacking prowess and within ten Greenwood had his second by slotting in from the edge of the 18-yard box. A rash of yellow cards then soured the game and resulted in the dismissal of Maine and Peter Barley. In the 81st minute Greenwood turned provider for Rose to crash the ball into the top corner. Bell grabbed Forrestfield a late consolation by firing a dubious second penalty past Pedro Pavez.

Rockingham City - Morley-Windmills 3:1 (0:1)

Goals: 0:1 Paul Dundo; 1:1 Andrew Keary; 2:1 Michael Vaz; 3:1 J McCreery

Queens Park - South West Phoenix 0:5 (0:3)

Goals: 0:1 Steve Suttie (19.); 0:2 David Murphy (23.); 0:3 Steve Suttie (41.); 0:4 Steve Suttie (49.); 0:5 Steve Suttie (61.)

South West Phoenix outclassed Queens Park today, 5-0 thanks to a superb performance from striker Stephen Suttie in the Football West State First Division at Coker Park.

Despite jumping out of the blocks quickly and coming close to scoring on several occasions early in the match, the home side proved no match for the Phoenix, who were lead by an amazing four-goal game from Suttie. Queens Park had a great chance to take the lead just three minutes into the game through Captain Ian McKean, who met the ball on the run on twelve yards and shot first time, but missed one that he should’ve scored. Ricky Simpson had another great opportunity to put the hosts in front in the 16th minute after a ball intended for Jimmy Taneski skipped over and fell straight into the path of Simpson who missed from an almost identical spot to McKean. Bunbury-based South West made Queens Park pay just three minutes later as Suttie put the visitors in the lead with one of the goals of the season. Starting with his back to goal, Suttie met the ball on the half-volley, placing the ball perfectly out of reach of the goalkeeper into the top far corner from 20 yards.

The Phoenix doubled their lead in the 23rd minute when a quality cross from the right wing was missed by Dayle Armstrong and dispatched by an open David Murphy.Six minutes later, Queens Park earned a penalty when Taneski was tackled down inside the box. Simpson, who is soon going to England to trial with League One side Brighton and Hove Albion, took the spot-kick but had it saved by ‘keeper Ryan Montgomery. The rebound fell straight to Simpson but he couldn’t control it properly and shot tamely at Montgomery.

Just before half-time South West scored their third through Suttie, who headed home from inside two yards after Queens Park ‘keeper Phil De Sousa failed to come out and collect a cross from the right flank.

Suttie secured his hat-trick four minutes after half-time through a horrible blunder by De Sousa. Suttie tried his luck with a 25 yard free-kick, hitting it firmly but straight at the Queens Park shot-stopper, who made a meal of it and let it roll under him. There was nothing De Sousa could do in the 61st minute as Suttie scored his fourth and South West’s fifth. The left-footed striker was played in-behind and after taking two touches calmly put the ball past the helpless De Sousa. That goal was the eleventh that Queens Park had conceded in their past two matches, while failing to score a single goal.

The Cannington-based side’s best chance for the second period fell to Mal Mackie two minutes later after Taneski had played across to him, but the veteran shot poorly from eight yards, blowing a golden opportunity. South West Phoenix Coach Micky Cairns was delighted with the brilliant all-round performance from his side.“We got the ball out wide and created things, knocked some quality balls in and because of that we secured the win in the first-half. We didn’t let a goal in which was pleasing, so it was a good performance and a good result for us,” he said.
